Designing Your Dream Bathroom

Although it is often overlooked your bathroom is a very important part of your home. You should be able to retreat to your bathroom at the end of a long day and relax in a nice quiet and soothing atmosphere. There are several things that you need to consider when designing your bathroom such as lighting, storage, comfort and functionality.

Choosing the Right Colors
You want to choose colors that are not only stylish but relaxing. You really want to stay away from pastels and neon colors. Choosing a more earth tone color will give the bathroom a real tranquil feel about it. Try choosing a brown or green earth tone for the walls and cabinets and then compliment the room by choosing a darker color for the borders and trim. This will give the room a great feel and will also show some contrast.

Take the same approach with the cabinets and sink. Go with a darker color for the storage areas and then compliment it with darker hardware. Also, try decorating the wall with darker decals and you can make them functional by decorating with towel hooks. This way they serve multiple purposes.

Tile or Hardwood Floors?
You definitely want to stay away from hardwood floors in your bathroom. Since, hardwood floors buckle when they get wet a bathroom is not the place for them. Linoleum floors often catch homeowner’s eyes because they are cheaper than tile. However, you will end up spending more money in the long run because they do not last as long as tile. Linoleum floors also will scuff easily and when they are wet it is very easy to fall.

Tile is the best option for flooring in your bathroom. It is easily cleaned and it is not slippery when it gets wet. It will also give your bathroom a more luxurious look and feel. The tile will last forever and it is well worth the money.
Bathtub or Shower?

If you choose to have a shower and not a bathtub you will come to regret it. If you shower everyday and think that you will never need a bathtub, think again. There will come a time when you wished you had a bathtub. If you space is limited then you need to get a bathtub and shower combination. If space is not an issue then you will need to have both. Not only will you be grateful, but you will add value to your home.

No matter what type of design or bathroom renovations you have planned for your bathroom you can rest assure that it is money well spent. You will enjoy a nice and comforting bathroom every day and if you ever decide to sell your home you will see a forty percent return on your investment.
